Government Polytechnic, Araria was established in 2018 by the Department of Science and Technology (DST) now, Department of Science, Technology & Technical Education (DSTTE) Government of Bihar. It was inaugurated by the Honourable Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar. Initially it was started with four Discipline i.e. Civil Engineering (CE), Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) with a batch of 60+3 students in each discipline. Computer Science Engineering (CSE) was added from session 2023-24 with a batch of 60 students. It was established as part of the Bihar Government's ambitious "Saat Nischay Program" initiative to establish Government Engineering Colleges and Government Polytechnic Colleges in each district of the state, with the intention of providing quality technical education to the students of Bihar.

The institute provides modern infrastructure and practical learning facilities for students. Experienced faculty members are dedicated to delivering quality technical education. The college also encourages students to participate in technical, cultural, and sports activities for overall development.
